German companies ISRINGHAUSEN and OECHSLER have jointly launched a truck seat that integrates sustainability, technological innovation, and design aesthetics – the ISRI Horizon TOMORROW. This revolutionary seat leverages additive manufacturing technology, with each component dedicated to reducing environmental impact while enhancing functionality and visual appeal.

Green Materials for the Future

The core of ISRI Horizon TOMORROW lies in sustainable innovation:

• Structural components use low-carbon steel instead of traditional steel, reducing the carbon footprint while maintaining strength.
• Polymer side panels and control units adopt recycled/biobased plastics, embodying a “regenerative aesthetics” in line with circular economy principles.
• The fabric cover is made from a single material, optimizing the end-of-life recycling process.
• OECHSLER utilizes Forward AM (now part of Stratasys)’s recyclable thermoplastic polyurethane TPU01, manufacturing 3D-printed cushioning pads via HP Multi-Jet Fusion technology. Combined with AMT post-processing coating, it achieves zonal density adjustment and 100% mechanical recyclability.

Redefining Riding Comfort

The seat cushion layer integrates recycled polyester and polyamide foam, balancing environmental protection and comfort. Its distinctive textile bellow component uses lightweight single-material, reducing weight by nearly 50% compared to traditional PVC. It also supports color/pattern customization, providing sustainable interior solutions for automakers.

An Industrial Breakthrough with 51% Emission Reduction

Calculations show that the seat achieves a 51% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions throughout its lifecycle. This achievement not only highlights the synergistic effect of material technology and additive manufacturing but also marks a paradigm shift in commercial vehicle interior design. Through high-performance materials and precise post-processing, OECHSLER has demonstrated the importance of collaborative innovation for sustainable development.
